today is a day of mourning - my friend's pet gerbil died last night - ok, so he didn't live in a magnificent palace looked after by a troupe of Polish virgins, and he didn't wear fabulously embroided dresses, or ride around in bullet-proof limousines - but hey, we're all equal in the sight of God, right?

"A majority of people in the US think Iraq aided al-Qaida before the war and had weapons of mass destruction."
such ignorance and stupidity in a country whose President sees himself as carrying out the will of his God makes me shudder for the future of the world
this is surely the biggest threat to Western civilisation since the emergence of the 3rd Reich

Tony Blair took the United Kingdom into an illegal war. Now he is frightened of being the target of an assassination attempt. So he is trying to bring in panic legislation removing centuries-old human rights. Let's hope he loses his seat in the coming election before he does even more damage.

The term "concentration camp" was first used in the nineteenth century to describe prison camps used by the Spanish military during the Cuban insurrection, those created by America in the Philippines, and, most widely, to refer to British camps built during the South African War (Boer War) to confine Afrikaners in the Transvaal and Cape Colony.
if the reporter had been Cuban, Filipino or South African, would there have been the same fuss over Ken Livingstone's comment?

the UK Government announced that waiting lists for cataracts are down to 3 months - i've got cataracts in both eyes - one has suddenly become much worse than the other - using just the bad eye, i can't tell a newspaper from a cushion until i'm less than a foot away - the optician at Vision Express (Basildon) said come back in a year's time and you can go on the waiting list - my NHS (Basildon) doctor said nothing could be done until the cataracts "ripened" - yet modern techniqes of micro surgery means there's no need to wait for cataracts to ripen (as confirmed by NHS Direct) - and "It is in fact now easier and safer to perform cataract surgery at an earlier stage."

Tony Blair claims the war with Iraq was justified because of the (imaginary) threat to the UK. So if Iraq had invaded England, bombed its cities, killed 20,000 people, and installed a puppet government, then would that have been ok, because of the (real) threat to Iraq by the UK? And if the English had fought back, helped by the Welsh and the Scots, would they be 'anti-English insurgents' and 'foreign terrorists'?

George Bush told Saddam Hussein that the US would invade Iraq
if he didn't hand over his weapons of mass destruction -
Saddam Hussein said he hadn't got any weapons of mass destruction -
George Bush accused him of lying, and ordered his troops to invade Iraq -
20,000 Iraqis were killed, half of them civilians, many of them women and children -
now it turns out that Saddam Hussein was telling the truth -
seems to me like Iraq is owed an apology -
but George Bush doesn't do apologies - he just carries on dropping bombs
