if the US is going to jail people for life for having fantasies about killing George Bush they'll be locking up more than half the world's population

There's a difference between fantasies and taking action. By joining a terrorist group, this young US citizen toke action in the wrong direction. Of course, a life sentence is out of proportions.

A similar case in the Netherlands: a young 'terrorist' has been acquitted because the judge thought his preparations were to cumbsy.

yes, a fair point

personally i must admit i am guilty to having no fantasies about killing George Bush, let alone any serious plans

if he was assassinated, then that would mean Richard Cheney taking over - i reckon this is the only reason Bush is still alive :)
